Plot: What’s it about?

Black & White is about a rookie cop Chris O’brien (Rory Cochrane of “Dazed & Confused” & “The Last Don”) who is assigned to Nora Hugosian (Gina Gershon of “Showgirls” & “Face-off”) who is a tough, sexy, veteran officer who is known for her ruthless, but effective style. The two get involved in a passionate affair while on a serial killer case. When O’brien receives mysterious evidence, he starts to conclude that Nora is the prime suspect in the murders.

Video: How does it look?

This DVD is offered in a widescreen version (1.85:1) on one side and full screen on the other. I compared the two versions and saw that the widescreen version did not have more picture information on the left & right than the full screen one. I watched the full screen version which was pretty clear with the exception of some minor artifacting during night scenes.

Audio: How does it sound?

The audio is available in Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Surround 2.0, and Spanish Dubbed 2.0. The 5.1 channel sounds good during some minor action scenes where all speakers are used. There isn’t a lot of action so a lot of the audio is confined to the front speakers with some occasional background sound in the police station.

Supplements: What are the extras?

The audio is available in Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Surround 2.0, and Spanish Dubbed 2.0. The 5.1 channel sounds good during some minor action scenes where all speakers are used.
