Plot: What’s it about?

I am not usually a fan of Christina Aguilera, but I had heard good things about this concert, so I decided to give this disc a spin. The good buzz was on the money, as Aguilera puts on a terrific show and in between songs, you’ll sometimes see behind the scenes clips shown. I’ve reviewed a lot of live performance DVDs, but this one stands out as one of the best, thanks to a fun to watch performance and awesome audio quality. The audio on this disc is tremendous, with 5.1 surround sound options in both Dolby Digital and DTS formats, very cool indeed. I still don’t think I will run out and buy Aguilera’s music or anything, but I enjoyed this performance, as she really plays the crowd and the overall production is well done. The costumes were very good, the stage was well designed, and of course, the lights were intense and added a lot to the experience. Aguilera travels through most of her more popular songs and some I’d never heard, but I am sure fans will be pleased to find included here. If you’re a fan of Christina Aguilera, this is a must own release and even those casually interested should give it a chance, you might be surprised. Below is a list of the tracks included in Aguilera’s live performance found on this disc.

1. Reflection
2. Genie In A Bottle
3. Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)
4. What A Girl Wants
5. So Emotional (with Lil Bow Wow)
6. I Turn To You
7. At Last
8. Contigo En La Distancia
9. Climb Every Mountain
10. Falsas Esperanzas
11. Alright Now
12. Merry Christmas, Baby (with Dr. John)
13. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (with Brian McKnight)
14. Christmas Time

Video: How does it look?

The concert is shown in a full frame transfer, as intended. The visuals here are bold and colorful, but this transfer never falters in the least. The intense colors stream across the screen and never smear or bleed, just vivid hues throughout. Even the lights look excellent here and I’ve seen some live discs where colored lights came off poorly, but here they seem crisp and never slip up at all. I was very impressed with the detail also, you could see each vibrant hue in Aguilera’s hair in perfect form, now that’s impressive visuals, to say the least. No errors with the contrast either, as black levels remain smooth and no detail is lost, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Audio: How does it sound?

This is a live musical performance release and as such, the audio is the primary concern, but it’s no concern here, as this performance sounds incredible. This disc houses dual 5.1 surround options in Dolby Digital and DTS, both of which will put you right in the first row, very impressive audio indeed. I was pleased with both tracks, but as it often seems with musical releases, the DTS option has an edge, so if you have the choice, I think the DTS track is the right decision. This is one of the richest, most complex concert releases I’ve heard, with superb overall sound and amazing clarity, a lot of attention to detail is found here. This disc also includes a Dolby Digital stereo option, in case that better suits your current audio needs.

Supplements: What are the extras?

This disc includes music videos for Genio Atrapado (Genie In A Bottle), Ven Commigo (Come On Over), Por Siempre Tu (I Turn To You), and The Christmas Song.
