Plot: What’s it about?
Raven Quinn (Debbie Rochon) is a popular horror movie actress, but her life is not as glamorous as you might expect. You see, her marriage is falling apart at the seams and no matter what she tries, it seems nothing will make things better. As if that wasn’t enough, it is almost the holiday season and of course, that means her problems are even tougher than usual to deal with, to be sure. At the same, Raven’s next door neighbor has developed an unnatural obsession for her, which could turn dangerous at any time. And of course, that time is now and soon enough, his obsession movies into overdrive and whatever it takes, he seeks to make Raven happy and that could mean serious trouble indeed. He dons the perfect costume for the holidays, as he stalks the streets as Santa Claus and as time passes, he adds more bodies to his list of victims. As Raven has problems with people, they soon end up dead and before all is said & done, his wrath could turn toward Raven, unless she can figure out a way to end his reign of terror soon.
This film was written & directed by John Russo and stars B movie queen Debbie Rochon (Terror Firmer, Erotic Survivor), but I have to say, I feel it fell short of the potential involved. Santa Claws delivers plenty of naked women and that’s always a plus, but I expected more horror elements, to be sure. I figured Santa Claws would be a blood and babes fiesta, but it turned out to be another nudie flick, but a decent movie by those standards. It has some horror moments, but they’re always buried in cheese, so don’t expect a bloodbath with Santa Claws. But there is a wealth of pointless, but wonderful nudity and anytime Rochon drops her linen, there’s reason to be pleased. A ton of naked chicks, some cheese laden death scenes, and a bunch of guys who worked on the original Night of the Living Dead are all found here, making it well worth a look, I think. I do wish the gore was increased, as some blood would compliment the babes well, but Santa Claws is still a fun flick and come on, we all like to have fun, right?
Video: How does it look?
Santa Claws is presented in a full frame transfer, as intended. This is a rather low budget movie of course, but this transfer is more than solid, given the circumstances. There is some grain present throughout, but not an extreme amount and as such, I won’t complain much. The colors seem a little warm also, which leads to some smears and such, while contrast is stable enough, but is far from razor sharp, to be sure. This is by no means as pristine a visual transfer as I would like, but it is more than decent, which is about all we can expect, I think.
Audio: How does it sound?
The included stereo option is more than decent, but don’t expect much more than the basics, which is all you need here. The music and sound effects come through well enough, with few errors to speak of, though the elements sometimes seem a little limited. Even so, this movie doesn’t make many demands in terms of audio, so I doubt anyone would be let down too much. The dialogue and screams come across in fine form also, with no flaws to discuss in the least. You won’t be blown away by this mix, but it more than handles the material.
Supplements: What are the extras?
A bonus feature is found on the disc’s flip side, which is Naked Christmas and you’d expect, this means tons of naked ladies, which ain’t bad. The piece is low rent and seems very rushed, but it has more nude chicks and that redeems the entire project, if you ask me. This disc also includes a Santa Claws promo reel, a series of outtakes & bloopers, and two vaults filled to the brim with trailers of all sorts.
