Plot: What’s it about?

Over 55,000 people were present at UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields, but did the card send them home satisfied? The main event featured Canada native Georges St. Pierre defending his championship against Jake Shields, who hadn’t lost a fight in over six years. Another Canadian was also involved in a title fight, as Mark Hominick attempted to topple Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight crown. But there were great fights beyond those with gold on the line, including the final octagon clash for legend Randy Couture, who stepped in against Lyoto Machida. The rest of the card also showcased Vladimir Matyushenko, Nate Diaz, Ivan Menjivar, Jason MacDonald, and others. This event featured a dozen battles and while not one of the UFC’s best cards, there is ample action here and some terrific fights. Whether you like explosive strikes or intricate ground work, there is plenty to be had here. So if you’re an MMA fan, UFC 129 is well worth a look. Here is the complete card listing.

Video: How does it look?

This event is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. This looks great, but of course pales when compared to the high definition live feed. Even so, the image is clear and looks great. No issues whatsoever, just a sharp and refined visual presentation.

Audio: How does it sound?

This sounds about like it would if you ordered the live event. You’re not going to be floored by the presence, but it sounds good. The impact from the strikes is there and that is crucial. The commentary is crystal clear as well, not to mention the various crowd reactions. Not a dynamic experience, but it captures the event well.

Supplements: What are the extras?

In addition to the Countdown to UFC 129 program, we also have a look behind the scenes and a Q&A session with the UFC’s champions.
